OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will premiere the anticipated docu-series “Why Not? with Shania Twain” featuring country/pop music sensation Shania Twain on Sunday, May 8 from 11 p.m.-12 a.m. ET/PT immediately following the “The Judds” finale (10-11 p.m. ET/PT). The series will move to its regular time period (Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT) beginning the following Sunday, May 15.

“Why Not? with Shania Twain” intimately documents the amazing journey of the music superstar who, by the age of 21, had survived a childhood of poverty and the loss of both her parents’ in a devastating accident. She went on to become the best-selling female artist in country music history. Then at the height of superstardom, Twain was blindsided by a double-betrayal shattering her 14-year marriage. Now she opens up about her life-altering heartbreak and how she’s moving on. Viewers will follow Twain as she begins her climb back to the top through a personal journey filled with risk, revelations and unexpected adventures.

In the series, Twain sets out on a tour of healing, sharing and rediscovering her voice. She returns to her childhood home in Timmins, Northern Ontario, Canada with her sister, Carrie Ann, to revisit the memories of their adolescence and their parents shocking death. She then continues on her journey with her bandmates and closest confidants as she steps out of her comfort zone on a cross-country adventure. Along the way, Twain meets with vocal doctors and coaches, as well as a grief counselor to work through the emotional connection of her vocal restrictions. She also meets with people and families that have experienced similar hardships in their lives, and has intimate one-on-one conversations with experts in the music industry including Gladys Knight, Lionel Richie and David Foster, who provide guidance and inspiration as she attempts to reclaim her voice.

The series is produced by Gay Rosenthal Productions. Gay Rosenthal, Bryn Freedman and Shania Twain are the executive producers.

The country superstar and Frédéric Thiébaud got married in Puerto Rico on New Year's Day, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

"They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends," says the rep.

The couple, who confirmed their engagement last month, became romantically involved in 2009, finding solace with each other after their spouses allegedly had an affair, breaking up both marriages.

In a letter to fans she posted on her Web site in December, Twain wrote, "In the last two and a half years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to. These people have been gifts, and I am fortunate to have so many of these beautiful people – friends, family and beloved fans, [whose] support I cherish more deeply with each day that passes."

"Talking about love," she continued, "I am excited to share some personal news with you; I'm in love! Frédéric Nicolas Thiébaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship."

Seasons greetings to all!

I've spent much time over the course of this past year, learning about others who have suffered loss in their lives and taken inspiration from how they've managed to overcome it. I'm learning that grief and the suffering of loss, challenges me to be more sensitive and understanding of other's and also more accepting of my own struggles. Challenge reminds me how important it is to let those who love me, care for me when I need it. The support of others has helped me to move forward less fearful of change, allowing me to embrace the beauty of life today and remain more open to whatever it brings tomorrow.

The people who make my life the most joyful are the ones I am able to lean on because of my own humanness. In the last two and a half years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to. These people have been gifts, and I am fortunate to have so many of these beautiful people - friends, family and beloved fans, who's support I cherish more deeply with each day that passes. Now another year is about to pass, and I would like to thank everyone who helped me believe that new beginnings are possible and that love can be trusted. Thank you!

2010 is leaving me with a renewed faith in love and commitment. I believe in the right to be loved and the blessing of being able to love in return. Shania Twain Has Found Love Again with Swiss executive Frédéric Thiébaud

Country superstar Shania Twain is engaged to Frederic Thiebaud. Shania confirms exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly, out Tuesday. Here is Shania news :

The country star, who went through a painful split in 2008, is engaged to Swiss executive Frédéric Thiébaud.

Twain, 45, stepped out with Thiebaud, 40, for a PDA-packed lunch at Serafina's Fabulous Grill in NYC on Thursday with an enormous engagement ring.

"I've never seen Shania so happy," a pal tells Us of the singer. Swiss-born Thiebaud, a Nestle business executive, popped the question about two months ago in Switzerland.

The couple's road to matrimony was an exceptionally complicated one. Thiebaud is the ex-husband of Twain's former best friend Marie-Anne Thiebaud -- the woman Robert "Mutt" Lange, Twain's husband of 14 years, abruptly left her for in May 2008. (Both Lange and Marie-Anne denied the affair.)

Twain and Frederic reached out to one another in the wake of the stunning double betrayal, and were spotted vacationing together in Canada, New York City and Florida.

Finally, in August 2009, Twain — who has a 9-year-old son, Eja, with Lange — came clean about their new romance.
Writing on her official website, she called Frederic "a dear friend and true gentleman...We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up. We've become stronger and closer through it all."

Adds the Twain pal: "She has ended up with the love of her life."

Shania Twain Back to Timmins and be Carrying the Olympic Torch

Shania Twain is coming back to Timmins this winter... and she'll be carrying the Olympic Torch. The news was announced this morning by Timmins Mayor Tom Laughren and the local committee overseeing the fact that part of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will be coming through Timmins on January 1, 2010.
It will be 100 years to the day that Noah Timmins arrived to inspect the gold mine claims staked in his name.
The Timmins leg of the Olympic torch relay will begin in Porcupine and carry on westward through the city. The highlight of the day will be a community celebration that takes part on the evening of New Year's Day at Fred Salvador Field beside the Hollinger Park.

Today’s announcement was made at the Shania Twain Center.

I think people are going to be pretty excited with this announcement,” said Mayor Tom Laughren before a group of local reporters.

“The Timmins Olympic community celebration committee is elated to announce that the final leg torch runner … will be Miss Shania Twain,” said the mayor.

“Since her rise to fame, Shania has been a tireless ambassador for our community. She has taken every opportunity to expound the virtues of her hometown,” he added.

“With her generous participation, she will not only focus a wealth of attention on Timmins, but on the Olympic Torch relay and the Vancouver games as well,” he continued.

“And I know the committee, VANOC, is elated with Timmins being able to make this announcement,” Laughren concluded.

Timmins city officials said they were delighted that the country music singing sensation had agreed to come back home to take part in the event.

Twain, who is in touch with the manager of the Shania Twain Center on a frequent basis, also released a statement:

It's an immense honour for me to have been given the opportunity to be an Olympic Torch bearer of the 2010 winter Olympics being held in my birth country of Canada in Vancouver, as it takes its journey through my home town of Timmins. It is certain to be one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I am proud to have been presented this unique opportunity and privilege and look forward to sharing the pride with my hometown and fellow Canadians as we are all proud of our country's chance to host the upcoming winter games. I have a tremendous respect for the hard work, dedication and talent of the world's greatest athletes and will humbly carry and pass on the Olympic torch with a special pride for my country's Olympians. I am grateful for this special gift of participation in carrying the flame that represents such an incredible spirit of sportsmanship and excellence and wish ALL the athletes of the 2010 Winter Olympics courage, strength and triumph during the games. “The torch will wind its way westbound through our community to our Olympic flame celebration at the Hollinger Park,” said Timmins Police torch run organizer Al Richardson.

Richardson says the celebration will begin at 6:00 pm (gates opening at 4:30 pm). The extravaganza will feature displays and entertainment from RBC and Coca-Cola along with local performers, dancers and singers who will entertain in advance of, and in proud anticipation of, the Torch arrival.

Halfway through the two-hour celebration program, Shania will carry the Olympic Torch on its final 300 meters to the stage where she will light the 1.3-meter high celebration cauldron, in a move similar to the dramatic highlight of what will occur during the Opening Ceremony for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The celebration will end at 8:00 pm, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.

Dear Friends,

First off, thank you for all the kind birthday wishes. I had a fabulous day with my family in Canada, ending with a surprise fireworks display.

I hope you enjoyed my "recovery and discovery" travel montage from the last several months. I took great pleasure in sharing it with all of you as a "thank you" for your support.

Now it's onto more excitement over the next few months, leading up to the New Year. I'll continue to keep you posted periodically on what's going on, as I continue to live and love each day, indulge in the joy of being a mom, continue writing, traveling, and keeping myself inspired.

The pic is from my recent trip to Chicago sitting in as a guest judge for American Idol. I had a blast and was touched by the warm welcome that Simon, Kara, Randy and Ryan extended to me. I can't wait for you to see it. I loved Chicago! So many fantastic buildings, it's super clean, has an interesting history, and the overall beauty of the place makes it very special. I also discovered "Frango" mint chocolates. Yum!

A Personal Message From Shania Twain

Dear Friends,

I am so excited to be writing to you personally again after so long.

First I want to apologize for the delay in releasing new music. Music is the basis of our relationship, after all, and I realize I'm not holding up very well on my end of the relationship! But music has a mind of it's own, and is ruled by a writer's emotions and state of mind, not by a time frame or wishful thinking. I wish like crazy that I had new music by now since I dream of how fun it would be to see you all again out on tour with new songs to sing, but as most of you know, I have been side-tracked slightly over this past year.

The personal issues that took place just over a year ago have been well documented, and there's no need to go into more detail here. Since then, I've been inspired by my pain to write and use writing as a therapy through the suffering. I truly wouldn't wish this on anybody as a means to get inspired, but it's been a productive period with so much emotion trying to find it's way out. However, there is no telling how long it will take me to actually finish these songs and record them so they can get out to you.

As many things as there have been to write about through this difficult time in my life, healing is serious business and has taken a lot of the wind out of my sails, slowing me down at times. As you know, I am a mom and all my energy goes to making sure my little man is healthy and happy in every way. This is a full time job, as any parent understands, but especially difficult when you are battling your own personal crisis at the same time while trying to spare your child of being affected by your own suffering.

One time when I was having a weak moment listening to some sad music and sobbing and slobbering over my computer's keyboard, Eja walked up behind me and asked me why I was crying. He wasn't sad at first--just totally surprised to see his mom crying (he is seven and never saw me cry before), and didn't know what to make of it. During this intense period, I was managing to hide my devastation from Eja and cried only when I was alone; but this one time was just too hard for me to control and I broke down. I was quick on my feet to answer him though and told Eja that music was very powerful and can make people quite emotional. It can make you want to dance, feel angry, happy or sad and that THIS this song was sad and made me cry. He accepted this, hugged me and went back to what he was doing. Phew, that was tough!

The energy it has taken me to deal with my personal life and managing to still be a responsible parent has been challenging, and while I have been putting what energy I have left at the end of each day into my writing, it's been hard to put it all together into song format.

Please be patient and I will do my best to continue working on a finished album!

Each morning I put my son on the school bus, feed our two dogs Sony and Dolly, drink my orange juice and sit down at the computer to write. I spend most of my time working with lyrics right now, sorting thoughts, expressions and concepts. It often comes out in the form of poetry, diary notes or e-mails to friends. My friends are great listeners and are very patient and generous about it. I often go back to my e-mails for song ideas. When I write in letter form, I don't hold back. I just write it as it comes without considering format, topic, manners, etc. Some of my best songwriting ideas are coming this way.

Time has a way of making everything right, and it is my hope that good music will eventually come out of it. I say "good music" since I don't want to just throw anything at you, just for the sake of hurrying up to get it out. I want my new music to be something I'm personally satisfied with and proud to share with you.

I have friends and family around constantly coaxing me to focus on my music. "Your fans miss you. They want new music. It's been too long." They're all dying for something new too, so they are pretty relentless about it! I know you certainly all do deserve new music and tour dates; not only because it's been so long, but also because of the HUGE support you've all given me during this period. The many blogs and e-mails have warmed my heart, strengthened my confidence, given me courage, and have often even made me laugh out loud…in a good way! I know I am not alone and realize through your support that you are all routing for Eja and I, and our well-being. Thank you!

The other day I started writing a few pages about being hungry as a kid. Some of it was painful to think about but it also made me laugh at the funny times. Reflecting on that period of my life, I realize how true it really is to learn to take the good with the bad. To appreciate that you can't have one without the other. The trick is to give the "good" at least as much of your energy as the "bad" and not to get stuck focussing more on the "bad". I decided to start writing about other stages of my life to help take my focus off the current phase I'm going through. When I'm feeling down, I figured changing my focus to write about other periods of my PAST would help pull me out of the sadness and on to new chapters in my life. It works.

I will sign off now but I look forward to my next letter/blog to you. I just wanted to fill you in a bit on what's going on with me and music, as well as extend my thanks for all of the support that you have given me over this last year and for all these years; and to assure you that I'm fine and managing very well, in fact. I'm enjoying my child, friends and family like I haven't in years, and it's great. I've been experiencing and seeing new things every day, living life with a different and more optimistic attitude. I've jumped out of an airplane at 10,000 feet, I'm riding Spanish and Arabian horses, traveling to exotic places, I've been deep sea diving for the first time! I pull the odd all-nighter, read more books, listen to Eja's favourite music with him, LOUD [ironically his favourite band is ACDC] and basically I'm enjoying life.

Shania's "You're Still The One," which peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 chart on 5/21/98, came in at No. 66.
Written by Shania Twain and then-husband Mutt Lange about their relationship, "You're Still The One" was the artist's first top 10 and most successful single on the Hot 100. Twain won two Grammy awards in 1999 for the track, as well as song of the year at the 1999 BMI Country Songwriter Awards.

Over on the Hot 100 Country Songs chart, Shania's "You're Still The One" is No. 3.

'Eileen' Twain got her start at country resort

HUNTSVILLE -- It's not often that three adjacent tables at a live music event include the following: a group of women wearing head scarves and drinking herbal tea; a teen celebrating his 19th birthday with his family and drinking whatever is put in front of him; and two senior couples sipping white wine.

But the varied demographics of people in attendance is entirely appropriate, given the show we are watching. It's also not often that the same bill includes performances of songs by Trooper, Michael Buble, k. d. lang and k-os. And Corey Hart, Alanis Morissette, Platinum Blonde and Gordon Lightfoot, for that matter. One thing that cannot be said about the shows at Deerhurst Resort is that they are too narrow in focus.

There's a good reason, though, for Deerhurst to aim to please a wide swath of people. This resort, which has been a popular high-end destination nestled in the craggy hills of Muskoka for as long as anyone from Toronto has sought to come up this way for relaxation, plays host to a diverse clientele. There are business conferences, weddings, couples, families seeking something to entertain the kids -- and, in 2010, the Group of Eight Summit. So it pays to cover a lot of bases.

On this August night, it takes until just before intermission for the show, Canada Rocks, to include a number by Shania Twain. As cast member Jaclyn Whittal sings the hit song Up, the video screens next to the stage provide the reason why it was a given Ms. Twain would not be overlooked in the tribute to Canadian musicians: She was a Deerhurst cast member for three years in the late '80s. The screens also note that Deerhurst is where she became Mrs. Mutt Lange in 1993. (No mention of the recent divorce.)

Glenn Bladon, now the musical director of the Deerhurst shows, played guitar back in the days when Eileen Twain from Timmins got her first musical break. "It was more of a Vegas-style show back then," he said in an interview. "More feathers and funny costumes."

He said he didn't know the woman who would become hugely famous as Shania particularly well, but remembers that she worked hard. "She worked all the time," he said.

Today's cast members don't get to spend a lot of time with their feet up, either. There are shows six nights a week, with two performances on Fridays and Saturdays, plus corporate outings and the odd bit of travel. Considering the general cheeriness of the show, it's easy to imagine that on some nights it's tough to keep smiling through every number.

Some performers keep up their own musical pursuits on the side, too. Ms. Whittal, one of the show's lead female singers, has released two solo albums and recently won a songwriting contest held by a Toronto radio station.

And as that career has grown, she says it's nice to have the steady work of Deerhurst -- this is her 11th season with the cast -- to pay the bills.

"It's great to be able to come back here when I'm not doing solo work," she said. "Having to learn to be comfortable with all these different musical styles, it really helps you to grow as an artist."

She certainly seems comfortable on stage, singing a Nelly Furtado song at one point, then a k. d. lang number a moment later. And when singing Chantal Kreviazuk's Before You, she slipped behind a keyboard to play a little, too.

All the cast members are required to be similarly versatile, which explains why many of them also perform on the variety shows that are the staples of cruise lines. Unless they are discovered by the Mutt Langes of the world first.

As the show on this night comes to an end, the audience cheers enthusiastically. The cast members come out for a last bow, and a final smile and wave. That table with the seniors? Playing against type, they seemed to most enjoy the rendition of INXS' Pretty Vegas, tapping their feet and drumming on the table along with the beat. More proof that the show's producers have good reason to cast such a wide musical net.

People magazine is reporting that Country-Pop singer Shania Twain and her music producer hubby of 14 years, Robert "Mutt" Lange, have announced that they are ending their marriage.
spokesman Jason Owen says in a statement :
"Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert 'Mutt' Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage, This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time."

Twain, 42, and Lange, 59, married in 1993, just six months after meeting. They are parents to a 6-year-old son, Eja D'Angelo.
In 2002, Twain told PEOPLE of her and Lange's relationship, "Our love has always been based on friendship and compatibility," though, she added, "we are very different."

In early 2000, press reports surfaced that their then seven-year marriage was in trouble, but the couple remained together. Around the same time, Twain all but disappeared from public life, retreating to Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland. "I needed a break, physically and mentally," she explained of her move. "I needed to leave behind the whole 'Shania' thing and be myself."

In the December 2007 issue of Redbook, Twain told the magazine: "I struggled a lot internally with my fame, and coping with it has been very difficult."

As for getting back into the public eye with a new perfume and album to be released this year, she says, "I'm not naturally a spotlight person ... [But] I don't mind being the center of attention in a controlled, comfortable environment."

The CTV audience for the 2008 Juno Awards was up a whopping 56% from last year's broadcast.

This year's Junos, which were held in Calgary on Sunday and were hosted by comedian Russell Peters, attracted an average audience of 1.45 million viewers to CTV. Last year's awards, which were held in Saskatoon and were hosted by singer Nelly Furtado, pulled in an average of 925,000 viewers.

The '08 ceremonies were the most-watched Junos presentation since 2003, when 2.18 million watched Shania Twain host the event in Ottawa.

A total of 4.3 million Canadians watched at least part of the two-hour Junos broadcast on Sunday. The audience peaked at 1.7 million when Anne Murray took the stage with Jann Arden and Sarah Brightman.

Shania Twain and Helen Clark Open New Otago Walking Track

Shania Twain made a surprise appearance at the official opening of a tramping track across her property in the Otago High Country.

The track was a condition imposed on Twain and her husband when they bought the property – a case of giving something back to the community.

Motatapu Track runs between Wanaka, Macetown and Arrowtown and about half of it is on Twain’s land.

The diminutive singer led the charge over a small section of the new track, closely followed by Prime Minister Helen Clark and assorted dignitaries.

It was a media circus the likes of which you seldom see in a wilderness area.

In an operation of military precision, the Department of Conservation flew Twain to a picturesque part of the track for a photo opportunity.

"I’m very proud," Shania Twain said. "It’s lovely. I'm enjoying myself. I'm having a great time."

Twain, or Eileen Lange as she was christened, has not walked the track herself, but will do soon.

Twain and record producer husband Mark Lange have owned a sumptuous holiday home in a prime spot of the Motatapu Station since 2004. But as part of the sale, they agreed to create a public tramping track. It links Wanaka to Arrowtown.

Clark enthused about the deal at historic Macetown, which is part of the track.

"I think Shania Twain and her husband have set a whole new benchmark for what can be achieved with a change of ownership," Clark said. "We have this wonderful new track. They've paid for the huts, the facilities."

Macetown, population nil, came alive today as the visiting celebrities attracted a mob of children on a camp.

High profile tramper Geoff Chapple has spent the last three days walking the track.

"They've certainly come in, you know, in a good spirit," Mr Chapple said. "And it's been like that right from the start. (They) took me by chopper to show me where the huts were going to be and said 'Geoff, this track has got to be the best track'."

The track opens to the public tomorrow.

Superstar Shania Twain has spent the past five years out of the spotlight, but now says she’s ready to resume her career.

In the December issue of Redbook, Shania candidly discusses the issues she’s confronted in the last few years. “I struggled a lot internally with my fame, and coping with it has been very difficult,” she says. “I was at the point where I would never look anyone in the eye. It was like living in prison.”

After retreating to her chateau in Switzerland with her husband and son, Shania is about to re-emerge. In addition to being mom to her 6-year-old, promoting a new perfume and working on an album that’s due for release next year, she says she’s learning to take care of herself. “I’m not such a slave to pleasing everyone, which I think is a female tendency.” she says. “I take more time for myself; that’s a very big part of mental, emotional and physical health.”

As for getting back into public life, Shania says, “I’m not naturally a spotlight person ... [but] I don’t mind being the center of attention in a controlled, comfortable environment.”

Shania adds that she wants “to write and record things that affect people in a positive way.” As for the future, she says jokingly, “I’ll probably be in the Canadian wilderness somewhere.”

Shania Twain was born in Windsor Ontario Canada on the 28th August 1965. Then she was known as Eilleen Regina Edwards.Just a few years later her parents Clarence and Sharon were divorced. Sharon took the children up to north to Timmins Ontario where she would marry an Ojibwa (Native Canadian) by the name of Jerry Twain, he adopted Eilleen and her two sisters, Jill (the eldest child) and Carrie ann (the youngest). Soon after they married they had two more children, first Mark, then Darryl. The family grew up in relative poverty and Shania's mother Sharon was often depressed. Sometimes they would join the local native reservation to hunt for food, usually in the winter months when there was no work and no money coming in. They would often eat things that her friends and school mates wouldn't dream of eating. But if they didn't eat things like deer and partridge, they simply would have starved. And in redbook magazine in 1999 Shania talked about what it was like back then, ''Most kids feel inferior if they don't have the right jeans on, I was way beyond that. I was worried about what was in my lunch. Nobody knew we were hungry, and I did everything I could to hide it.'' Shania would often take bread with mustard on, just to make it appear that she had a lunch, terrified that the authorities would find out and take her away from her family.But throughout all this Shania's mother was determined to nurture her daughters obvious talent early on. When she was just 3 years old she remembers her mother putting her up on counter tops to sing. Then when she was just 8 years old she was performing her parents favorite country songs in old people's homes and bars (after hours when they had stopped serving liquer). Soon she was even appearing on TV shows. Behind all this was the support of her parents, who wanted her to succeed. Sharon was booking her in everywhere and Shania loved to sing, as her sister Carrie Ann once commented, ''Shania would always be singing, even just walking down the street. I'd be so embarrassed.''

From the age of 10 Shania was writing her own songs and dreaming of a much better life. When she was in her teens she had a job at mcdonalds after school, she worked on her dads reforestation business and at the age of 16 she played in her first band. A band named Longshot, ''We were pretty good actually, pretty dangerous for my home town and pretty popular.'' (FHM 1998)

Music was Shania's life, she would skip classes in school to write songs in the music room and after graduation she played in bar bands that played anything from pop to rock. ''There's something more moving about music than anything else in life for me, It's like a drug, I spent my teen years being high on music.'' (redbook)

Then when she was 21 years old she moved from Timmins to work in Toronto, secretary by day and singer by night. Until she got the call that would change her life forever, when she was just 22 years old her sister rang her with the terrible news that her parents had be killed in a car accident. Both of her brothers were also in the vehicle and survived. This turned young Eilleen's life upside down, ''Yes, you can lose somebody overnight, yes your whole life can be turned upside down. Life is short. It can come and go like a feather in the wind.'' (Country America 1998)

She went back home to be with her brothers and sister Carrie Ann, where she would continue to help raise them until they were old enough to take care of themselves. She moved them to Hunstville Ontario where she performed at the Deerhurst Resort night after night, as a singer. She looks back on this as good experience and a learning period, like going to music school, which she never had a chance to do.

While at Deerhurst family friend Mary Bailey set up a meeting with some guys from Nashville, who came to see her perform at Deerhurst. They invited her to Nashville to cut a demo. Soon after, when her siblings had all left the nest, she was offered her first recording contract with Mercury Nashville. The first album wasn't a big success but it did gather attention from a certain south african record producer called Mutt Lange. Then living in England, he would watch CMT Europe for the lastest releases. One day he happened to see Shania's video for 'What made you say that?' and immediately wanted to know more. A friend in Nashville sent him Shania's CD. He contacted Mary Bailey in the hope of getting to speak to Shania and in return was sent a signed photo. He didn't give up however, and soon he and Shania were talking on the phone on a regular basis and sharing song ideas. They finally met at fan fair June 1993 and already were best friends. Over the next few months they wrote songs together whenever they could and eventually they found that they had fallen in love, on December 28th 1993 they were married. The next six years went like a whirlwind, two hugely successful albums, co-written and produced by her husband Robert John Mutt lange (The Woman In Me and Come On Over) and a high profile, highly successful world tour. With Shania's enthusiam for life you can be sure there is a lot more to come, ''You never know what's around the next corner, but you have to be willing to explore it, '' she told Country America magazine.

Come On Over is the biggest-selling country album of all time by any artist, male or female, and is now tied as the fifth best-selling single CD release, following The Eagles, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac. The soundtrack to ''The Bodyguard'' shares that slot with ''Come On Over''.

But even with this much success Shania remains firmly grounded, attending her high school reunion in summer 2000 without a bodyguard. She lives in Switzerland with her husband Mutt Lange, loves horses and her dogs. She tries to keep her life as normal as possible and dislikes being treated like a star.

A rare breed of talent with a warmth that reaches her fans worldwide because of her undeniable quality to interact with her audience in a down to earth way. This makes Shania a people's person and a success story that is sure to grow.

Shania Twain (née Eileen Regina Edwards) was born the August 28, 1965, in Windsor, Ontario. She was raised by her mother, Sharon, and her stepfather, Jerry Twain. The second eldest of five siblings, Shania and her family lived in a rather unstable financial home. Despite the family's financial troubles, their home was always full of music.

Shania indulged in writing and singing songs, and found inspiration in popular contemporary tunes. Tammy Wynette and Willie Nelson were among her favorite country musicians, while she also loved such artists as Stevie Wonder, The Mamas and the Papas, and The Carpenters.

Shania's parents encouraged her to take her writing and singing talents to the public by waking her up in the middle of the night and taking her to after-hours clubs to perform. By the time she was 8, she sang in every public venue -- everywhere from church and community events to performing with local bands at bars.

With the encouragement of her mother, Shania Twain always made performing a part of her life. While Shania spent her summer vacations from high school helping her parents financially by taking on part-time jobs, she still continued to be the lead singer of a cover band.

After graduating from high school, Shania went to Toronto to attempt to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a professional singer/songwriter.

Tragedy struck the family when Shania's parents were killed in a car crash, in 1987. She returned home from Toronto and became the surrogate mother to her younger brothers and sisters. In order to support her siblings, Shania worked at a resort, singing and dancing.

While singing show tunes at the resort for three years, Shania continued to work on her career by releasing a demo tape that a representative at Mercury Records in Nashville heard. When she finally became a Mercury Records artist, Shania, who was still known as Eileen Twain at the time, was urged to change her family name for a name that would go better with Eileen. Loyal to her family's origin, she chose the Ojibway name Shania instead.

"Shania," which means "I'm on my way" in the Native American language, was indeed well on her way. Her first album, Shania Twain, was not successful, but after marrying her producer, Robert "Mutt" Lange, in December 1993, her second album, The Woman in Me (1995) went on to sell 18 million copies -- more than any other female country artist. The album not only broke records, it also spawned seven hit singles.

Two years later, Shania went on to shatter more records with the release of her third album, Come on Over, selling 34 million albums worldwide. Come on Over became the best-selling album by a female solo artist and the best-selling country album of all time.

With huge hits such as "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" and "That Don't Impress Me Much," it's no wonder that Shania was featured as one of the divas to perform at VH1's Divas Live, with fellow divas-at-large Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Gloria Estefan. The album of the live performances was released in 1998.

The price of huge success, however, is controversy. Die-hard country fans did not appreciate Shania's assertive lyrics, which portrayed a strong, independent woman, nor did they like her midriff-baring look, which practically became her trademark. Even more disturbing to country fans was the fact that Shania did not hail from Nashville.

Following the extensive touring to promote Come on Over, the couple took some well-deserved time off to start a family.

Shania gave birth to a son named Eja (pronounced "Asia") on August 12, 2001. The arrival of Eja put the release of her fourth album, Up!, on hold until November 2002. But she kept busy that year by performing at the American Music Awards and the Super Bowl half-time show (where the general consensus was that she was lip-synching). She also hosted the 2003 Juno Awards, Canada's answer to the Grammys.

Up! sold two million copies in the U.S. in its first month of release, and spawned the hits "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!," "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing," "Forever and For Always," and the title track, "Up!"

In 2004, Shania Twain did what every successful artist ventures to do and released a greatest hits compilation. Greatest Hits features three new singles, including the hit duet "Party For Two," of which she recorded the country version with Billy Currington and the pop version with Mark McGrath. The album sold over 3.5 million copies in the U.S. and over 7.5 million copies worldwide.

Like any other profitable celebrity, Shania decided to venture into a different market. She joined the manufacturer COTY to develop the fragrance Shania by Stetson. 2005 also marked the year she appeared on an episode of Donald Trump's The Apprentice, was invested as an Officer in the Order of Canada, and had a TV biopic made about her life called Shania: A Life in Eight Albums, starring Meredith Henderson.
